Why PGS Medics
Home visits take time
Housebound patients often need longer than a surgery appointment allows, and every visit means time away from a full surgery day.
PGS Medics gives those visits the time they need. Patients are seen at home by a clinician who gets to know them.
How it works
Simple for your practice team
You pass us the visit
Your team passes home visit requests to us, the same way it would to a GP.
We see the patient at home
A regular clinician assesses, treats and prescribes as needed.
It's in your record the same day
Every visit is written up in your own clinical system, so your team can see it straight away.
Inverurie Medical Group
The first six months
Since April 2026, PGS Medics has done most of the home visits for Inverurie Medical Group, keeping up the same level of care as the list grew.
Paddy and PGS worked for us on a locum basis from September 2025, during this time he integrated into our duty team seamlessly. We took the decisions to reshape our team and Urgent Care for the start of the financial year 26-27.
The biggest concern we have had is the allocation of Home Visits and the uncertainty of time for a clinician to be away from the practice. When Paddy suggested a solution of outsourcing this completely we were keen to take this on as part of a 6 month to a year trial.
The first 6 months have gone very well and have allowed us to focus more clinical time on on-the-day and routine appointments, safe in the knowledge those most at need and requiring home visits are being catered for. We have since extended this contract to the full year and we are looking forward to seeing this develop.
How we work
Our principles
Patients: People, not lists.
Housebound patients get prompt care from a regular team who know them. We take the time each visit needs, and plan ahead with patients and their families.
GPs: Genuine partners, part of your team.
We work openly inside your practice. Every visit is in your own system the same day, reported to you each month, and our fees are agreed up front.
Staff: Supported, not stretched.
Clinicians are trusted to run their own list, with a manageable workload and backup when it's needed.
About
Patrick Stephen, Director
For more than 20 years, my work has been caring for people outside hospital, much of it in their own homes. I've been a paramedic since 2008, working as a practitioner since 2012 and an independent prescriber since 2018. I set up PGS Medics so that home visits could be my whole focus.

- Before the uniformWhat were you doing five years before your first healthcare job?
- My kids would never forgive me if I didn't tell you that I used to be a chef in Paris. I spent six years there, and they hear about it every time I'm in the kitchen.
- Shout-outName someone who was a big influence at any stage of your career.
- When I first joined GMED, my two mentors, Katie Forbes ANP and Dr David Leiper, were the nicest, friendliest people a very nervous young paramedic could wish to meet. More recently, through all the work that's gone into PGS Medics, AMC has been selflessly patient. Thank you.
- First impressionsYou're meeting a patient at home for the first time. How do you introduce yourself and earn their trust?
- It's always "Hello, Mrs Smith, it's Paddy from the GP surgery. What can I do for you today?" Although I'm guilty of slipping into Geordie mode with a "How are you doing?", which, given they've called because they're not well, sometimes gets the answer it deserves.
- Another lifeIf you weren't doing this job, what would you love to be doing instead?
- Running a little café in a beautiful village somewhere in rural France. If I'm honest, there'd probably be more sipping wine on the terrace than cooking.
- On repeatYou can only play one song on the drive between visits, forever. What is it?
- Goodbye Mr. Blue, Father John Misty (listen)
Questions
Straight answers
- Where do you work?
- We're based in Kintore and work across Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire.
- When do you visit?
- Weekdays, during practice hours. We take visit requests right up until your practice closes, so a late call doesn't mean a GP leaving surgery.
- Who does the visits?
- Patrick does the visits himself at the moment. As more practices join, we'll bring in local clinicians, so each practice has a regular team who know its patients.
- Who's clinically responsible?
- Your practice keeps overall clinical governance for its patients. Every clinician holds their own professional registration, indemnity and PVG membership, and we take part in your incident reporting and audit.
- What if a patient needs a GP?
- We phone your duty doctor, the same as any clinician in your team would.
- What does the practice need to provide?
- Access to your clinical system. That's it.
- What does it cost?
- Fees are agreed up front and fixed for the term of the contract, based on the cover your practice needs.
